Guinness in Japan.

So last night when I stepped outside of the hostel, it was chucking it down with rain... I went back inside to get my raincoat and decided instead of going to the 'autumn illuminations' in the pouring rain, I would head for Gion to see if i could spot some geisha who apparently can be found scurrying to their appointments in Gion in the evenings..... and drink GUINNESS.

I spotted two! Woop! Well actually it is "Meiko" that I spotted.. (apprentice geisha) but those are the women you think of when you hear the word Geisha - the women with the white painted faces and red lipstick with beautiful kimonos etc..) they looked beautiful. While I was in Gion, I came accross an Irish bar so I went and had a pint of guinness and a steak sandwich... nom nom nom! :) The atmosphere in there was great and I got talking to someone from North Wales who told me about the places he'd been including a place called Arishyama which was magnificent... so I decided I would head there today and it WAS absolutely beautiful... right up in the hills, so high that it looked like the clouds were covering the tips of the mountains. There were MOOOORE temples which I didnt bother with but loads of really beautiful market streets and forests and a gorgeous river with people in boats and kayaks and also a bamboo forest which apparently is in the film memoirs of a geisha. Now im back at the hostel to rest my aching feet before i set off about 7/8pm in the direction of the bus terminal to get the night bus back to Tokyo! I cant wait to go to Nikko and Mount Fuji! Oliver (the guy who runs the hostel) has just offered coffee and is watching a documentary on wildlife.. woop! my sort of geeky afternoon! haha!
xx
