Bogglington carrot head.

Here I am again on my Sunday off... trying to think of what has happened in another week that has passed so quickly!

It was rainy for several days at the beginning of the week as we got the aftermath of Cyclone Olga which hit Northern Queensland pretty hard. The temperature dropped a little and I found myself quite enjoying the comfort of a pair of cosy hugging jeans! After a few days I was ready for the sunshine again though!! When I was at the supermarket on Tuesday I'd seen some 'sun-in' spray on special offer - you spray it on your hair, go into the sun and it makes it a couple of shades lighter which I thought would look nice so I bought it and on Wednesday, when the sun came out to play again, I sprayed it on and went off into the sunshine to read my book.... did it go a couple of pretty shades lighter? OH no, it went ORANGE. Not just slightly ginger... ORANGE!! I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry when I looked in the mirror! The others thought it looked cool.. I, on the other hand definitely DID NOT. I went on a mission to the chemist and bought the first packet of brown hair dye I could lay my hands on and dyed it brown! What a waste of time and money! However, I made about $20 from giving some massages at the end of the week so luckily I'm not out of pocket! As some of you will know, I never do anything with the colour of my hair so the whole drama was all a bit traumatic! haha! Anyway I now appear to have brown hair with a gingery/reddish tint -particularly so at the roots!!! Every time I go in the sun it goes lighter so i have been resorting to wearing a hat when I remember to take one with me... or tying my sarong round my head turban stylee! Apparently if I dye it a reddish brown it will last longer so I may have to do that!
Yesterday Mark (who lives and works with us) said that the surf at Sunshine beach was amazing and I should go just to check it out.. I managed to persaude Sadie to come with me and when we got there it was brilliant... the waves were about 10ft tall, they got smaller and smaller the longer we stayed there but it was still amazing. We sat on the beach dancing to the weird music on my mp3 player and every now and then saying "whoooaaaahhh" as we saw another huoooge wave appear and crash! There were some crazy people on jet skis out there but not too many surfers as the current was so strong it was almost impossible to paddle out - it was quite funny watching them try but I felt a bit sorry for them.. just paddling and paddling and not getting anywhere, in fact most of them were going backwards!!haha! when we got back to the hostel, we went to eat our dinner and they were showing Wipeout (the oz version) on tv which made my day (although I think some of the restaurant customers thought i was a bit odd having hysterics about something so simple!)
Erm..... what else has been going on? more swimmming, wave diving and jumping, sunbathing, national park exploring, dancing, working, sleeping and eating. OH.. and plotting my escape!! ... I have booked a flight from Brisbane to Adelaide on 19th Feb so my last day of work here at Halse Lodge will be Wednesday 17th, I'll get the bus to Brisbane on Thursday morning and explore Brisbane for a few hours then Sue (who I know through the Pituitary Foundation and who helped me try to organise bringing my medication into oz etc) has really kindly said she will pick me up and I'll go and stay with her and her husband Eric then she'll drop me in brisbane or at the airport on Friday for my flight to Adelaide at around 5pm. I'll fly to Adelaide, stay one night there and hopefully find someone to share a lift along the great ocean road with, ideally arriving the 22nd Feb so I can stay in Melbourne a couple of nights before I have to be back in Sydney for my flight to Christchurch. I'm looking forward to doing the great ocean road but know I'm going to wish I had longer... hey ho, at least I have actually managed to save enough to do it! :)

I thiiiink that's all I have to tell you at the moment! I am off to read about a vegetarian hippy who works in a whole food cafe and dreams of being a potter... hmmmm... another excellent book left behind on the hostel shelf! ha ha.
